Excerpt!

Kadeem, please hurry! I sent to him.

I’m trying. It had to start over when the lights went out.

“So, you are the infamous Syira I’ve been hearing about.”

I spun around. A Polar woman was standing behind me, sneering, with her gun aimed at my heart. I used my kinesis, ripped it out of her hand, and raised my laser at her. I assumed she would attack—instead she stood their glaring at me. Her hair was platinum also, but it flowed past her shoulders. She resembled Venus, slightly taller, around my height. Her irises were crystal blue.

“Excuse me! What have you heard?” I had to know what she meant by that statement.

“I’ve heard plenty, although after seeing you in the flesh, I don’t see what all the fuss is about.”

“Who the hell are you?”

“Why don’t you ask Kadeem? Trust me, he knows who I am.”

What was she talking about? We were at war and she wanted to stand here playing mind games.

Kadeem, we need to get out of here!

It’s almost done, he replied.

“What’s almost done? I don’t know what you are up to. But you aren’t going anywhere!” the blue-eyed wench yelled, lowering herself in a position of attack.

She must be a mind reader, since she had heard what Kadeem and I said. “Get out of my head, wench!” I’d had enough of her smart ass mouth, whoever she was. It was obvious she knew Kadeem personally. This pissed me off immensely. What nerve, trying to challenge what was mine. I would ask him about her later. But the Surpass was almost here, the Polarmar was wreaking havoc, and soon we would be vastly outnumbered.

I slammed my gun into her head. I didn’t want to shoot her at the moment; I wanted hands on contact. She staggered, then retaliated with a right hook. I stepped out of her reach, sending several fists into her face. She countered; I dodged most of her punches. This wench hit like a little girl. I laughed—she sneered. I brought my knee to her face. Blood gushed from her nose. Livid, she charged me, slamming her head into my stomach. Bracing myself, I lunged my elbow into her back and grabbed her around the waist. Using my telekinesis, I picked her up and slung her into the wall so hard, it knocked her out cold.
Someone socked me in the head from behind. I recovered quickly, whipping around with my gun raised. Venus used her mind-warp of pain on me. Her gray eyes glowed with loathing. I resisted, but this caused my nose to bleed. I was able to use my power to send her flying back, but she was swift.

Venus flipped to her feet fast. I blasted my laser at her. She evaded the beams and returned fire. I put my shield up and used my kinesis to redirect the beams. Then her warp of agony was on me again. I was barely able to use my power to whisk the laser from her. I could feel her mind-warp trying to break through my barrier. I jabbed her in the ribcage, attempting to puncture a lung. Venus finally penetrated my force shield and began returning punches. She grabbed my head, kneeing me in the face. I retaliated, forming both hands into a fist. I slung it across her head like a baseball bat. Her head flew to the side, spitting out blood. The way she stared at me was with pure hatred. The golden aura around her irises seemed to blaze brighter.

The lights fluttered as the building trembled. Venus veered her torment once more. I went to one knee. She got behind me, grabbed my left arm, and twisted it forcefully behind my back. I was in so much agony from her power that I couldn’t defend myself. She twisted it even tighter. I could hear the bone pop. It hurt like hell. Against my will, I screamed. Several from the team shouted my name. Venus released me. I fell on the ground, clutching my arm with tears in my eyes.

Shiray was my rescuer. The lights continued to flash rapidly while Shi and Venus went at it. Upper cuts, power kicks, and jabs. At the same time, they were sending each other affliction. The spasms in my arm were overwhelming. I began to shake profusely. I felt weird, lightheaded. Kadeem rushed over, kneeling beside me.

“What’s wrong with her?” Kadeem asked.

“I’m not sure,” Shi responded. Venus must have ran off.

Starting to tremble violently, the pain in my arm increased, which was hard to fathom. Then the agony subsided, but Sonar was disappearing, like I was being pulled into a vortex.

“Something is wrong,” Kadeem said, frantic. “Code Blue Zebra!”

Huh … was I passing out?

“Let’s go, now!” Bryan exclaimed.

The facility rumbled, then the lights went out for good. The Sonar Surpass was here.
